KEEN recruits for trips to the Space Station!

The George Town Mayor recently launched the Kids Activity Portal and KEEN Partners were able to attract an important recruit to help drive the project.

In March, KEEN received a call from from Shane Power, the George Town Council GM outlining a role to assist the community in anticipation of families being housebound.

The Council wanted to provide an on-line resource, primarily for children in the George Town municipality who may be house-bound during the COVID-19 times. The brief from Council was for someone with a background in educating / entertaining children who could create content which children of all ages would find both educational and fun.

The Council would consider supplementing the on-line with delivery of resources (colouring in material, etc). The role was ~20 hours per week and would work in conjunction with Meagan at council.

In steps Newstead Childcare Centre and Nicola…

KEEN Partners initiated a call out and within days we were introduced by Adam at Illuminate to the team at Newstead Childcare Centre. Given the disruption occurring with Childcare Centres, displaced casuals were considered as potential candidates for this role. A few days later Nicola, who happens to be from George Town had commenced in her role.

So why KEEN?

  1. KEEN Partners is “industry led” – because we’re led by industry our business model needs to constantly adapt to the changing needs of the industry partners and sectors we seek to support. This means we will consider all requests, in particular from strategic partners such as George Town Council. Provided the request can be met, and still ensure KEEN Partners operates in a manner consistent with our overall vision and values, then we will take on the challenge.

  2. KEEN Partners is also a “community minded employer” – knowing the absolute disruption to businesses and employment following the COVID-19 virus, we quickly put our hand up to broker redeployment opportunities for people out of work, in particularly casuals and for the businesses we’ve engaged with and for people who were keen to work in a culture that values growth and support.

More about the portal itself…

It’s a great portal for kids and families, locally and abroad to enjoy a whole heap of activities without needing to leave their homes! Take a virtual tour of The Louvre in Paris, see the Live cameras at the San Diego Zoo or get a full tour of the International Space Station!

In addition to that you’ll also fid activities with music, dance, crafts and puzzles - plus plenty more opportunities to learn as a family.

“Apart from exploring the backyard, finding and creating your own fun with in the confines of your home, Council hopes that our Kids Activities Portal will give the community another tool to support them in these unfamiliar times” said the Mayor of George Town.

General Manager Shane Power also added, “We believe that the Kids Activity Portal is one way Council can assist in providing educational resources, as well as health and well-being services into the homes of our community”.

The fun isn’t just here for the periods of COVID-19 isolation but will be updated with more things to see and do across the long term too.

“Our main priority is to keep our community safe and do what we can to help ‘flatten the curve’. It’s developments like this one that we believe shows our commitment to a safe and healthy community.”

KEEN Partners, together with South 32 and Walker Designs, proudly co-invested in the Kids Activity Portal with the George Town Council .
